Stop Wasteful Publication And Open Libraries For Longer Say Lib Dems

Nottingham Lib Dems have proposed that recent cuts to library opening hours be reversed and that each of the city's libraries should stay open for at least one extra hour each weekday.

This follows a Freedom Of Information request put in by Lib Dem campaigner Lloydie James Lloyd, which revealed that the City Council had spent £144,000 on “The Arrow”, a glossy leaflet full of council propaganda.

Lloydie James Lloyd said:

"The £144,000 being spent on The Arrow would be far better spent on our city’s libraries. Labour has recently cut library opening hours, yet this money could go most of the way towards keeping them open for an extra hour every weekday. That would do far more for literacy and communities across Nottingham than an expensive piece of Labour council propaganda.

"Then there’s the £15,000 to write a council newsletter. That is a lot of money for not a lot of words. After three decades in media, I know what that buys, and it isn't this.

Labour seem to have gone back to their wasteful ways again. It’s time they were held to account properly.”

Lloydie has campaigned for a number of years for Nottingham's libraries to get the investment they deserve. Nottingham Liberal Democrats will continue to push hard for better resources, staffing and opening hours for libraries.
