We’re pleased to announce our candidate for the Sherwood Ward By Election as Alison Rouse and for the St Ann’s Ward By Election as James Housley

Alison Rouse for Sherwood Ward

Alison is an experienced local campaigner who wants the local council to do more to support small businesses in Nottingham. She wants to ensure local small business owners are given the opportunity to allow their businesses to grow in the post-pandemic city.

As a business owner myself, I know how hard the last two years have been for business. Our wide array of independent shops, restaurants and cafés are only the tip of the iceberg. Nottingham needs to offer more to small businesses, such as attractive, affordable office spaces and greater practical support.

Alison Rouse, Liberal Democrat candidate for Sherwood

Local businesses are the key to growing our local economy and ensuring a prosperous Nottingham for all. If elected, Alison will work to ensure small business are given the opportunity to help shape the growth of the city.

James Housley for St Ann’s Ward

James is a local campaigner who is passionate about protecting green spaces in the local area. He wants to ensure the views of local residents are heard by Nottingham City Council and pledges to be that voice if elected.

“Green spaces should be at the heart of communities. Here in St Ann’s we’ve got some fantastic parks, but these need to be protected by the council and not have shadows cast over them, like the Bendigo Building will do to St Mary’s Rest Garden”

James Housley, Liberal Democrat candidate for St Ann’s

In addition to this, James remains concerned about the way council-owned companies are being repeatedly bailed out by the taxpayer. EnviroEnergy provides heat and hot water to thousands of homes in St Ann’s, but the council is now planning to liquidate the company and shoulder the burden of its £11 million of debt, adding to the council’s total debt of nearly £1 billion.
