In 2009, it looked like the Council was planning to close Beechdale Library and sell the building to a charity.

The Council is continuing with plans to close Beechdale Library despite large numbers of local people wanting to keep it open

Nearly 2,000 local people signed a petition to stop this happening.

As the local councillors for the area covering the Library, Gary and Alex were not well consulted. They first heard about this from the Evening Post when they phoned up for comment!

Alex said, "As you would expect, we definitely oppose any closure plans. We have seen first hand the valuable work the Library does, and we want it continue. Two staff members have served the public so well that they have been nominated for the Council's "Going the Extra Mile" awards."

Local people have contacted the FOCUS Team with their concerns about this. A campaign is being organised.
