Lib Dems welcome tram decision

NOTTINGHAM LIBERAL DEMOCRATS have welcomed the Government's decision to give the go-ahead for extensions to the city's tram system.

It was announced on 31st July that Nottingham will receive a £530m cash injection from the Government to help fund NET Phase Two. Lib Dem leader in Nottingham, Gary Long, said: "This is good news for the people of Nottingham. Phase Two will not only help the local economy, but it is also an important step in making Nottingham a greener, less polluted city."

He continued: "It was disappointing when the Conservative-led County Council withdrew money from this important project, but the City Council is confident that it can go-it-alone. That's Liberal Democrat councillors voted in favour of the tram at Nottingham's latest Council meeting."

The total cost of the tram extension will be £680m, of which the City Council will contribute £150m.
