Lib Dems choose Tony Sutton for Nottingham South Constituency12.00.00am GMT Mon 14th Mar 2005 Nottingham City Liberal Democrats have chosen Tony Sutton as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency of Nottingham South. Mr Sutton and his family have lived in Nottingham South for the last 26 years since he joined Boots to run their Food Development Dept. As a committed Liberal Democrat he has campaigned on local issues and has stood for Nottingham City and County Council on a number of occasions Following his early retirement he has now become even more involved in campaigning for a fairer, more liberal society. Commenting on his selection, Tony said "People are becoming increasingly disillusioned with the Tory and Labour spin and misrepresentation. They compete to promise more and more to us so that we vote for them today, and then they ignore us until the next election! Only the Liberal Democrats have radical policies to address real needs and for which they campaign all the time.
There will be fairer local taxation. There will be better support for students. There will be more dignity for pensioners with free personal care and £25 a week extra for over 75's without any complicated and expensive means testing. There will be 10,000 more police offices" Tony said" Only the Lib Dems respect people enough to honestly tell you that they will have to raise the tax rate to 50% on income above £100,000 to pay for their pledges. We believe in Freedom. Fairness and Trust. We are the Real Alternative!" ENDS
