Lib Dems choose Issan Ghazni for Nottingham East Constituency12.00.00am GMT Mon 13th Dec 2004
Nottingham City Liberal Democrats have chosen local Management Consultant Issan Ghazni, as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Nottingham East Constituency. Mr Ghazni is an Equalities and Diversity Consultant who advises the public, private and voluntary sectors. He has more recently worked with the Home Office, National Probation Directorate, Centrex - The Central Police Training and Development Authority, and the Learning and Skill Council. He has 20 years of political and community leadership experience and is currently a board member of the Nottingham Council for Voluntary Services, independent member of the Regional Assembly for the East Midlands and Chairperson of the Diversity Group for the National Probation Service Nottinghamshire. Commenting on his selection Issan said, "We are currently in unprecedented times with the invasion and occupation of Iraq, with the growing rift in Britain between rich and poor, and with record rises in crime. This government has been obsessed with creating and perpetuating a climate of fear to overcome the public's lack of trust in the Labour Party leadership. It continues to impose draconian measures affecting the civil liberties and human rights of its citizens. We are now further away than ever from our European partners and from our economic and political interests as an integral part of an ever-strengthening European Union. "Nottingham East is experiencing an explosion in drug and gun related violent crimes. The fear of crime is now making many people in local affected communities to question the wisdom of voting for the Labour Party. The Liberal Democrat approach will not only provide tough solutions for crime reduction but will also be tough on the root causes of crime." ENDS For further information contact Issan Ghazni, Unit V14, Business Opportunity Centre, Lenton Boulevard, Nottingham, NG7 2BD, 0115 9556003
