Lib Dems choose Tim Ball for Nottingham North Constituency12.00.00am GMT Mon 13th Dec 2004
Nottingham City Liberal Democrats have chosen Tim Ball as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency of Nottingham North. Mr Ball has lived in Nottingham for over 15 years and has campaigned for the Lib Dems throughout the city. Commenting on his selection, Tim said "It is important to mount a strong challenge from the Liberal Democrats in Nottingham North. The Conservatives are clearly incapable of giving any serious opposition to Labour in the constituency." Asked about residents' concerns, he said, "Many residents in Nottingham North are having a hard time with the Council Tax and with the low state pension." "As a local resident myself, I was astounded to receive two Council Tax bills this year. What a waste of taxpayers' money. Instead of going from one crisis to the next, the unfair Council Tax should be scrapped. It should be replaced with a fair Local Income Tax related to ability to pay". On Britain's pension crisis, Mr Ball said, "I fully support the Liberal Democrats' fully costed plan to raise the basic state pension by £25 per week for the over-75s as a first step towards a full Citizens' Pension and an end to Gordon Brown's means-testing".
